Over the past financial year, MineARC and Freeport-McMoran (FCX) have been working together on FCX’s West Papuan asset expansion plans in the minerals district of Grasberg. A 200-person MineSAFE Permanent Refuge Chamber to Indonesian Mine, Freeport-McMoRan, a leading international natural resources company with headquarters in Arizona, operates one of the world’s largest copper and gold deposits in their Grasberg operation.
In 2014, FCX commissioned MineARC to supply over 30 refuge chambers in line with their plan to expand operations by 60% over the coming three years.
More recently, MineARC has assisted FCX in commissioning a 200-person MineSAFE Permanent Refuge Chamber to the Indonesian Mine for their DMLZ mine, which goes into production in 2015.
This relationship continues to grow with the view that MineARC will supply ongoing training and support to key FCX personnel. The aim is to reduce the burden of servicing staff and to provide on-site safety awareness training.
As part of this plan, in the coming months, MineARC will be flying four FCX Safety, Emergency Services & Mines Rescue staff from the West Papuan site to MineARC’s head office in Perth to participate in training and safety courses. This immersive training schedule will allow us to implement a ‘train the trainer’ schedule for staff back on site.
FCX has also shown interest in MineARC’s recent addition to their Ancillary Range, the EnviroLAV. On big operations such as Grasberg, sanitation is critical, and FCX see EnviroLAV’s low maintenance enzyme-powered waste management technology as a good long-term solution to their staffing requirements as their operation goes into production in the coming 12 months.
