MineARC is proud to have been selected as the winner of the 2014 Australian Prospect Award for Excellence in Mine Safety for developing a safer, sustainable waste management system for underground mines known as EnviroLAV Toilet. These awards are in their eleventh year, and nominations drew stiff competition with more than 100 submissions across all categories.
MineARC’s winning submission is low maintenance, low impact, environmentally friendly portable latrine, suitable for the harsh conditions of the mining industry.
MineARC’s EnviroLAV Underground Toilet
The EnviroLAV is the latest innovation in self-contained toilet systems – suitable for all types of mining applications.
Designed to be simple to operate and maintain, the EnviroLAV can be used above and below ground wherever there is access to compressed air or electricity.
The EnviroLAV’s structure consists of latrine facilities mounted on top of a miniature biological treatment plant. Waste matter is deposited directly into the biological treatment tank and isolated throughout the process.
The EnviroLAV requires emptying just once every 12 months, with standard usage. Alternative chemical latrines typically require up to 10 times the typical amount of labour on servicing and maintenance over a year. The EnviroLAV delivers a substantial cost saving over the long term.
